When all goes south, it is often believed that you just need something to hold onto, something to keep your hope alive cause even in a room filled with darkness, a slightest beam of light works wonders. The lesser known fact being that it is just your body who has given up, while your soul still finds reason to hold on.
There could not have been a better time to realise the importance of hope and the strength that follows. We are all well versed with the pandemic situation, the problems it brought, the underlying struggles and the losses. While it has tested us from all dimensions be it emotional or financial, we still get up every day with this hope that sooner or later things will settle and the routine life will return, all we have to do is just keep going. With new unlock guidelines coming in every month, the government is attempting to bring convenience in our lives. One such attempt has been made by the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The love and affection for IPL amongst people around the globe is very deep rooted. Especially in India, it is the most awaited tournament. Every year IPL takes place around the months of April – May. People clear their schedules long before and make plans of watching the matches together with their loved ones. IPL today is not just a tournament where teams play cricket matches against each other and at the end we have a winner, the picture is a lot bigger than this.
It is a game which brings people together providing a sense of belongingness to them cause together they share moments of sorrow and joy.
This year as well IPL was planned in the months of April- May, but after the corona virus spread it became impossible for the BCCI to conduct the tournament on the planned dates. Not just IPL, a lot of other leagues such as the EPL, NBA, etc. were postponed until further notice. Even the ICC was forced to postpone men’s world T20 under the given circumstances. But this proved to be a blessing in disguise because now the BCCI was attempting to conduct IPL on later dates. After a lot of deliberations, the BCCI finally selected UAE for conducting the tournament in the month of September of 2020.
This one news brought back hope in the mind of the people that good things are on their way. Although they won’t be able to be physically present in the stadium to cheer for their teams, at least they will have something to divert their mind and be cheerful about. In crucial times like these, IPL has played a significant role in keeping people’s calm. Tired of the lockdown, sitting in their houses for months had in some way or another affected the mental health of the people.
It had become difficult to stay within the four walls of our house for such a long duration with all the festivities being cancelled as well. Just when most people were losing their sanity, IPL came in. Now staying indoors didn’t seem that difficult task to do. Not visiting the stadium isn’t the only new fact about IPL 2020. This year the sponsorship has also been shifted to Dream 11 instead of Vivo. While a lot is changing in the IPL ecosystem it has still been able to spread positivity and hope amongst the people.
