Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojna is known as the self-reliant India mission. This mission provides Rs. 20 lakh crore economic package and a number of reforms and measures. Due to COVID-19, the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi announced a special economic package for the Atmanirbhar Bharat or Self-Reliant India.
When Mr. Modi addressed the nation on the 12th May, 2020, he strongly believed that, the only way that India moved forward was by being a self-reliant country in the 21st century. Hence, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ means self-reliant India.
Significance of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojna:
- Mr. Modi highlighted the fact that the country should always turn its crisis into an opportunity. For instance, the N95 masks and the PPE kits were produced to higher levels.
- The PM quoted the words- “self-sufficient India” from the “Eshah Panthah” scriptures.
- Mr. Modi emphasised that there is a difference between being self-centric and economically centric. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’s concept inspired Mr. Modi to use this strategy to globalise India.
- However, Mr. Modi does not mean to cut India from the world. Mr. Modi trusts that, India has a lot to offer the world with its trade and its humanity.
- Besides, the PM also urged the citizens to buy local products.
Five Pillars:
Reforms are necessary to move a self-reliant India forward- nationally and globally.
Atmanirbhar Bharat focuses on 5 pillars.
- Economy
- Infrastructure
- Systems
- Democracy
- Demand
India is driven by the economy growth and development, technology, equality, the market supply and the market price changes.
The Finance Minister, Ms. Nirmala Sitharam, provided measures and reforms under Rs. 20 crore package.
Other Major Decisions taken by the Atmanirbhar Bharat:
- Labour Reforms are provided to the workers and the employees.
This means that, the citizens of the country are supported socially, economically, and politically. A critical concept of wages called the National Floor Wage has been newly introduced. Social security, and OSH codes are provided too.
- Agriculture Reforms open up many doors for the farmers
The farmers will be protected legally by entering contracts with the exporters, processors and retailers. They will only be allowed to sell to the licensees in APMCs.
- Coal-sector Reforms
These reforms work towards an environmental-friendly Bharat using coal gasification and liquidation.
- Defence Production
Several weapons are banned to reduce the huge defence import bill. The FDI limit of the defence manufacturing is increased from 49% to 74%.
- Airspace and Aircraft Sector
Private sectors are allowed to use ISRO’s facilities. The Aircraft sector is marginalised into defence and civil sectors to create more economy for the country.
- Technology-Driven Education
PM e-VIDYA is a program is started to initiate online courses from Grade 1 to Grade 12. Special e-content is also available to special children.
Manodarpan is an enterprise to address the mental health of citizens of the country.
National Foundational Literary and Numeracy Mission is launched in December, 2020 to achieve Grade 5 education by 2025.
- Ease of Doing Business Measures
MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) are majorly supported. PSEs (Public Sector Enterprises) are privatised. There is equal support given to both, private and public sectors. The Companies Act is also modified.
The country needs a strong-supply push boosting its economy, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. People need to start buying more, hence demand needs to be created for goods and services.
Nevertheless, this is not the main focus of Atmannirbhar Bharat. The main focus should be to provide employment opportunities to migrant workers and support them, financially. Moreover, fiscal policies need to be implemented, instead of monetary policies, as liquidity is an issue.
Atmanirbhar Bharat is trying to find a foothold in the ever-changing globalised world. With effective and efficient reforms and policies, India can easily get back to its feet with the help of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojna scheme.
