BREAKING THE STIGMA OF MENTAL HEALTH.

Due to the recent scenarios of increasing suicidal cases, it has become necessary to break out the silence held on and speak about the stigmas of mental health.

  • What is the stigma of Mental Health?

Stigma is a stereotype. It is dishonor or denial of a particular being just due to the way it is. Society and the socials turn out to be disrespecting and isolating every such being, considering it to be a taboo. For people, tasking with their own mental health has been mistreated and negatively judged by the socials.

The socials stigmatize the people with mental health challenges to be rude, abnormal, or even mentally discharged. Needless to specify, the socials do not intend to hurt or provoke the degree of illness to increase but inversely have to be held accountable for creating differences even in a crude manner.

The delicacies of people facing the challenges of mental illness.

Mental illness is not permanent. The mental illness of a person can have various reasons. It is a period when a person is going through a mental pressure or severe stress about something. It can cause a change in the behavior of the person. The person may act weird, lost, or even sound impatient. This is because the person is going through an illusional state of mind. The person is either blank in thoughts or probably having a high tide of thoughts in his mind. At this time, the mental situation of the person cannot be judged. They are in the continuous fear of being judged and hence they sometimes act weird. It might also feel arrogant sometimes.

  • THE BEHAVIOR OF SOCIETY TOWARDS PEOPLE FACING MENTAL ILLNESS:

The pressure and reactions of society is an even bigger challenge for people facing mental challenges. The society holds them guilty for so much they haven’t done. They are been tagged with various blames and abused and insulted which makes them feel unsafe and uncomfortable and hence they fear even the surroundings. They are scared to open up. They tend to hide their state of mind and in the process they become lonely. Loneliness is a choice if society is excluded from the concept.

 What can we do to furnish these stigmas? How can we make a difference to this?

1.Social Acceptance: Society should openly accept that not all are the same. Some people have unseeingly extra-ordinary skills and at the same time, some people may be at weaker ends. These people should be welcomed equally in society by open arms. Mental Illness is not permanent. It should not be treated as a taboo. In fact, one should start it from home. Mental Illness should be normalized as any other disease. The social pressure should turn out as social support.

2. Self-Acceptance: As much as one needs acceptance by society. One must understand that the first step begins with ourselves. We must learn to accept ourselves. We mustn’t feel bad about our weakness rather try overcoming it. We should craft ourselves into our own healers. We should wear confidence like the most expensive jewelry and not let anyone break it. We should make a warm and peaceful surrounding for our self and do what we love and which can help us grow mentally and spiritually.

 Life is quite simple and purposeful. Don’t be a reason for someone’s grief rather try spreading love and happiness.

Dalai Lama once said “Mental happiness is more important than physical comfort. Physical comfort comes from the material but the material cannot provide peace of mind.”
